Recognition of Prior Learning & Retrospective Credit

How much time am I able to RPL?

  • The RACGP allows Registrars to apply for up to 12 months of particular hospital terms undertaken post-unconditional registration.
  • ACRRM allows Registrars to apply up to 2 years (and in some exceptional cases, 3 years) RPL for the FACRRM for any of training. This includes:
    • rural experience or specifically experience relevant to rural practice
    • experience gained prior to unconditional registration in Australia and
    • in some cases (determined on application) gained by training overseas

When do I submit my application for RPL?

You are required to submit your application for RPL to your Director of Medical Education before the end of your first year (FTE) of training.

Who approves my RPL?

Applications for RPL are initially reviewed by your Director of Medical Education and then submitted to the RACGP and/or ACRRM Censors for consideration. The final decision on whether or not an RPL is granted is made by the relevant College Censor.

How do I find out if my RPL has been approved?

Complete RPL applications will be processed and the GP Registrar notified of a decision with 3 months of a completed application being submitted to CCCGPT barring any unforeseen circumstances.
