ACRRM Training Requirements

Registrars training under the ACRRM pathway are required to develop a learning plan at the beginning of each term. The learning plan will outline the plan for supervisiion and teaching within their current term in conjunction with their ACRRM Supervisor and Medical Educator.

ACRRM vocational training takes four years to complete. Registrars may enrol in the FACRRM at any time after PGY1. The training is flexible and can be streamlined to meet regional training and rural workforce requirements. Part time training may be undertaken.

The following requirements relate to the ACRRM pathway, some of which must be undertaken in the practice context:

  • 12 months core clinical training in an ACRRM-accredited metropolitan, provincial or regional/rural Hospital
  • 24 months primary, rural and remote training in a combination of rural or remote General Practices, ACRRM accredited hospitals, Aboriginal Medical Services or the Royal Flying Doctor Service
  • 12 months advanced specialised training in ACRRM-accredited specialised training posts in at least one discipline. Accreditable disciplines include surgery, obstetrics, anaesthetics, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health, emergency medicine, mental health, adult internal medicine, population medicine, population health, paediatrics, and remote health
  • Successful completion of the ACRRM fellowship assessment
  • Two emergency courses
  • Four online learning modules from ACRRM's online learning management system, RRMEO.

The selection of optimal clinical placements and rotations is critical to the achievement of the FACRRM skill set. The ACRRM medical adviser is responsible for providing local advice and guidance in both the allocation of terms and sign-off of all learning plans for ACRRM candidates.
