Our GP Training Programme

The existence of three autonomous geographically based Local Training Groups within the CoastCityCountry Training region reflects the view of the Board that the communities in each region have unique needs that are best met by local groups taking responsibility for ensuring that GP Registrar Training is responsive to those specific needs. The three groups are the Illawarra/Shoalhaven/Southern Highlands, South East NSW/ACT and Riverina/Murrumbidgee.

For rural areas in CoastCityCountry's region community needs include workforce related issues. While the delivery of a quality Training Program which educates and supports Regisitrars’ is the CoastCityCountry's highest priority it also recognises the importance of making sure that Registrars are distributed as evenly as possible across the entire training region.

For this reason, following an interview with CoastCityCountry Training, Registrars must indicate their Local Training Group preferences. The preference form also requires the Registrar to acknowledge their understanding that they may not be allocated to their LTG of first choice. Last Year we achieved a first preference rate of 93%, however, our ability to meet first preferences in any given year will depend on the pattern of preferences! Registrars willing to undertake hospital terms in our region and Rural Pathway Registrars who intend to move their families to regional centres will be advantaged in the CoastCityCountry interview process.

At the time of indicating their LTG preferences Registrars will be advised of exactly how the LTG allocation process will work.

Eligibility of Applicants to train with Coast City Country

Congratulations for considering the Coast City Country (CCC) Regional Training Provider for your General Practice Training.

You will find that the program has a lot to offer, and will help you towards the standard of independent General Practice in Australia; the Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP). Although the RACGP still sets the exam, it is no longer involved in training candidates. For more detail see the "How Training has Changed" section.

Before you apply for training with CCC, you need to make sure that you are eligible to make an application. There are 4 criteria that you need to meet before you can apply. These criteria are:

• Citizenship
• Medical Qualification
• Medical Registration
• Training Program Registration
